First US Undersecretary of State Stephen Biegun will visit Moscow next week to discuss the situation in Belarus, said Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov.
First US Undersecretary of State Stephen Biegun will be in Moscow next week as part of a European tour, Ryabkov said.
He noted that Belarus occupies an important, but not a key, place in Biegun's consultations. The talks will mainly be focused on Russian-American bilateral relations.
Mass protests began in Belarus on August 9, right after the presidential election, in which Lukashenko won for the sixth time. According to the CEC, the incumbent head of state garnered 80.1% of the vote, while his nearest rival, Sviatlana Tikhanauvskaya, got 10.1%. The protesters believe the results of the voting were rigged.
